L.U.C.A.S Foundation is a non-profit organization, providing programs and funding assistance for education and other
services to families with Down Syndrome children ages six (6) and older.
According to the Canadian Down Syndrome Society, approximately one out of every 800 children in
Canada have Down Syndrome.1 That means, at some point in your life you will probably encounter an
individual with Down Syndrome.
"People with Down Syndrome are individuals like everyone else,
with their own personalities and family characteristics. It is caused by a chromosomal
arrangement that often results in degrees of developmental delay and recognizable
characteristics." 2
